Jon Sim
Jon Sim, a New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, native was drafted by the Dallas Stars in the third round, 70th overall, in the 1996 National Hockey League Entry Draft. After being drafted, Sim carved out a 15 year professional hockey career where he has been taken on a considerable journey – playing for eight different NHL teams and four different American Hockey League teams.
Sim played in the Dallas Stars organization from 1998-02 where he won his first and only Stanley Cup in 1999 when the Stars defeated the Buffalo Sabres. Sim then spent time with the Nashville Predators and the Los Angeles Kings during the 2002-03 season, before being picked up by the Pittsburgh Penguins for the 2003-04 season.
During the NHL work stoppage in 2004-05, Sim played for the AHL’s Adirondack Phantoms where he compiled the most points of his professional career – a very respectable 35 goals and 26 assists for 61 points in 63 games. Sim went on to lead the Phantoms to the 2005 Calder Cup that year tallying 10 goals, seven assists and 17 points in 21 games. The following year, Sim played half of the season with the Flyers before he was traded to the Florida Panthers where he played out the remainder of the season. In 2006-07, Sim signed a contract with the Atlanta Thrashers and produced 17 goals, 12 assists and 29 points in 77 games which proved to be the highest of his NHL career.
Sim then moved on to the New York Islanders organization where he played from 2007-11. Sim decided to test the European waters in 2011-2012 where he played in the Czech Republic and in Germany, before returning to North America where he split time with the San Antonio Rampage and the Adirondack Phantoms.
Sim retired from professional hockey as a member of the AHL’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers during the 2013-14 season.
