Quebec native Zach Fucale may not have been born in Halifax, but he certainly made both a home and a name for himself here during his legendary run with the Mooseheads.
 
Selected eleventh overall in the 2011 QMJHL Entry Draft, it didn’t take long for Fucale to prove his greatness to Haligonians. In his first season with the Mooseheads, goalie Fucale set a QMJHL record for most wins by a rookie with 32, and for his performance he was named to the QMJHL all-rookie team and awarded the Raymond Lagacé Trophy as defensive rookie of the year.
 
During the 2013 season, Fucale become the Moosehead’s all-time leader in game wins with a whopping 79 total. His impressive defensive prowess lead the Moose to both President’s Cup and Memorial Cup wins. On January 21, 2014, Fucale became the youngest goalie to reach 100 wins in QMJHL history, at 18 years, 7.8 months. At the same time he set a new record for achieving that mark in the fewest games, winning his hundredth game in 145 starts. At the end of his time with the Mooseheads, he was the club's all-time leader in regular season wins (126), playoff wins (35), and shutouts (15).
 
In November 2012, Fucale was named the #1 North American Goaltender in the NHL Central  Scouting rankings for the upcoming 2013 NHL Draft. This prediction (and a dream) came true when Fucale was selected by the Montreal Canadiens 36^th overall, being the top goalie taken – where he currently remains as a prospect.
Fucale was traded to the Quebec Remparts in December of 2014. Fucale defensively supported the Remparts all the way to the 2015 President’s Cup Finals, where they finished second to Rimouski Oceanic.
 
This past season, Fucale played primarily with the Montreal Canadien’s American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the St. John’s IceCaps.  He recorded 16 wins while posting a 3.13 goals against average. On November 30, the Canadiens recalled Fucale from the AHL to become Mike Condon's back-up goalie during Carey Price's recovery from an injury.   At the end of the season, he was named the team’s winner of the IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the St. John’s community during the 2015-16 season.
 
Fucale has also had success internationally, winning gold with Team Canada in the 2012 Ivan Hlinka U18 Memorial Tournament and playing for the 2014 and 2015 Canadian World Juniors Teams – placing fourth in 2014 and winning gold this year.
